Service organizations designed to assist municipalities in making health care information available to the public are gaining ground as seen in New York City where two such organizations, HealthConnect and TriZetto have helped the City of New York to establish a service website for its citizens. HealthConnect and TriZetto function to help governmental organizations that have a desire to implement health insurance exchanges, which are also called connectors. Through these exchanges governmental organizations provide citizens access to a wide range of health plans from several health providers.

It was announced today through the Ohio Association of Health Plans (OAHP) that Ohioans should experience heftier health care premiums accompanied by less robust benefits. This is expected to occur if the current comprehensive health care reform proposals being considered by Congress as part of new legislation, are to pass into law.

Presently there are 3 city unions that are requesting that an independent audit of the Medical Insurance Trust Fund by carried out, saying that the city has failed to pay its fair share into the account and at the same time they are overcharging retirees and employees. They say that this has been going on since 2005.

According to the unions, grievances have been submitted to the state Division of Labor Relations.

North Adams Mayor John Barrett III referred to the claims that are being made by the North Adams Firefighters Association, North Adams Teachers Association, and North Adams Police Association and, both ludicrous and ridiculous. He cites the fact that as required by state law, the city undergoes an independent audit each fiscal year.
